Abstract

Televangelism, the practice of religious broadcasting through television, has emerged as a powerful tool for influencing public opinion and mobilizing social and political movements. In Nigeria, a nation with deep religious roots, televangelism has gained considerable traction over recent decades, positioning itself as a significant platform for religious leaders to broadcast their messages to vast audiences. This study explores the role of televangelism in shaping governance and socio-political change in Nigeria, where the intersection of religion and politics presents both opportunities and challenges for public policy and societal values. With its broad reach, televangelism has the potential to impact public consciousness, influence voter behavior, and contribute to the shaping of political discourse. By examining the influence of televangelists in Nigeria, the study seeks to understand how religious messages can influence governance structures and public attitudes toward political leadership, transparency, and social reforms. The findings suggest that televangelism not only plays a role in moral guidance but also significantly shapes political narratives and societal values, driving both political participation and public expectations of good governance. This paper contributes to the growing body of literature on the intersection of religion, media, and politics, particularly in the context of Nigerian socio-political dynamics.
