Abstract

Social media platforms have become a significant aspect of modern communication, transforming the way people access and exchange information globally. With advancements in technology and widespread internet availability, information is now more accessible than ever, bridging geographical divides and providing unprecedented connectivity, even in remote areas. Social media, often described as a networked relationship between individuals, facilitates a range of activities, from social networking to content sharing, blogging, and online learning. This paper explores the role of social media in combating examination malpractice, with a specific focus on Taraba State University students. The study examines how students perceive social media as a tool for fighting academic dishonesty and evaluates its effectiveness in curbing such practices. The research adopts both qualitative and quantitative approaches, surveying students to gauge their awareness and usage of social media platforms for anti-malpractice campaigns. Findings suggest that social media plays a pivotal role in raising awareness about examination malpractice, promoting ethical academic behaviors, and encouraging a culture of integrity among students. This paper contributes to understanding the intersection between technology and academic integrity in the Nigerian higher education context, highlighting the potential of social media as a force for positive change.
