Abstract

This paper analyzes the language style employed by Ifeoma Okoye in her novel Men without Ears. It explores how Okoye uses specific linguistic techniques to convey her message and achieve particular effects on her readers. In the novel, she critiques societal ills in Nigeria, contrasting them with conditions in other countries such as Tanzania. The metaphorical title highlights the obstinacy of Nigerians who perpetuate corruption through continuous illicit practices. Through her masterful use of language, Okoye exposes the malpractices of government officials, security agencies, and others, thereby drawing the attention and sympathy of readers who may be directly or indirectly involved in such activities. The study demonstrates that deliberate choice of language style can serve as an effective tool for addressing societal malfunctions and promoting reform in Nigeria
