Abstract

This study examines the challenges faced by solo parents under the Solo Parent Act of 2000, focusing on financial and time management, child discipline, the transmission of time-honored values, and social stigma. It also explores the circumstances that lead individuals to become solo parents and their awareness and utilization of benefits mandated by law. Employing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, a qualitative research method, the study investigates the lived experiences of ten solo parents from diverse age groups. The research highlights the fluidity of parental roles, including those of LGBT members, challenging traditional societal perspectives. Findings reveal that solo parents develop resilience, maintain control of family dynamics, strengthen familial relationships, serve as home counselors, and nurture hope for the future. The study recommends sustainable livelihood programs, scholarships for vocational courses, access to legal aid services, and personal development training to enhance the well-being of solo parents, thereby promoting the principles of social justice.
