Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) stands as a pervasive and enduring global health challenge, imposing substantial mortality, morbidity, and a considerable strain on healthcare resources. Recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a disease with far-reaching consequences, the escalating incidence of DM underscores the urgent need for effective interventions. The relentless rise in DM prevalence, coupled with the enduring impact on health systems, has prompted healthcare providers and policymakers to redirect their focus toward enhancing diabetes care and patient outcomes through self-management interventions.

DM, characterized by the pancreas' inability to produce sufficient insulin or the body's ineffectiveness in utilizing produced insulin, instigates chronic elevation of blood sugar levels. This uncontrolled elevation leads to lasting damage and dysfunction of vital organs, manifesting as complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy, and renal failure. The chronicity and severity of DM position it as one of the most prevalent and impactful chronic diseases worldwide, steadily increasing in prevalence and significance.

Addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by DM demands a comprehensive and patient-centered approach. Interventions aimed at self-management become pivotal in navigating the complexities of this chronic ailment, with a focus on empowering individuals to take charge of their health. As healthcare providers and policymakers grapple with the burgeoning impact of DM, the imperative to optimize self-management interventions becomes paramount for mitigating the consequences of this global health crisis.
