Abstract
<p>Fundulus herminiamatildae sp. nov. is an endemic species found exclusively in the Marmolejo stream, situated within the headwater tributary of the Río Soto La Marina basin in the municipality of Aramberri, Nuevo León, México. Geologically, this area falls within the Northeastern province of México, specifically within the Sierra Madre Oriental subprovince. The differentiation of this species is significantly influenced by water temperature, which serves as a crucial factor. Its closest relative is F. philpisteri. Notably, Fundulus herminiamatildae can be distinguished from other killifishes by its distinct characteristics, including a notable abundance of simple lateral bars, a body with a high profile, and specific proportions in cephalic length, with the following averages: snout (2.7), eye diameter (4.5), and preorbital length (2.9).</p>
