Abstract

This study investigates the impact of financial globalization on financial development in Nigeria over the period 1981–2021. Using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique, the research examines how financial liberalization and global capital integration influence the growth of the banking sector and the stock market. Empirical results indicate that financial globalization significantly enhances financial development, as evidenced by improvements in both banking sector performance and stock market activities. The findings suggest that greater integration with global financial markets can serve as a key driver of financial sector growth in Nigeria. The study recommends the implementation of active financial globalization reforms to further strengthen the banking sector and expand stock market development, thereby fostering overall economic growth.
