Abstract

In today’s highly competitive business environment, organisations are confronted with the challenge of maintaining efficiency while fostering a committed and motivated workforce. Ensuring that employees remain aligned with institutional goals and objectives is essential for sustaining growth and performance. One approach widely adopted by management to achieve this is job enrichment, a motivational technique designed to enhance the quality and depth of employees’ roles. Job enrichment focuses on making work more meaningful by introducing variety, responsibility, autonomy, and accountability, thereby encouraging higher levels of employee engagement and commitment. In the context of state-owned universities, managerial commitment is particularly vital for organisational development and service delivery. This study explores the role of job enrichment in strengthening managers’ commitment within Bayelsa State’s public universities. By examining how expanded responsibilities, skill utilization, and increased decision-making authority influence managerial dedication, the study highlights the importance of job design in promoting both individual and institutional effectiveness. Findings are expected to provide practical insights for administrators and policymakers in higher education on how to leverage job enrichment strategies to enhance managerial performance and commitment
