Migratory waterfowl are the natural reservoir and source point for influenza viruses. Artificial water ponds in rural and urban communities are potential sites of the human-animal interface for influenza a virus (IAV). This paper reviews the literature on the transmission of IAV between migratory waterfowl and domestic ducks in community ponds, and the potential for this to lead to human infection.
