Abstract

Open defecation poses a significant threat to public health, leading to the transmission of various diseases through human feces. The term "Open Defecation Free" (ODF) signifies a community or household that has successfully eradicated the practice of open defecation. This paper explores the concept of ODF, examining both the achieved state of eliminating open defecation and the declaration of a community or household reaching this milestone. The proper utilization of improved sanitation facilities is crucial in preventing the spread of diseases linked to human feces, such as intestinal worms and neglected tropical diseases. This study underscores the impact of poor sanitation and water supplies as catalysts for disease cycles, particularly bacterial infections.
