MAPPING THE SPACE OF LINGUISTIC THEORIZING WITH REFERENCE TO PHONOLOGY

Abstract

This study surveys the field of linguistics with particular focus on phonology. It examines linguistics as a scientific study of language, providing an overview of its major branches and micro-linguistic areas. The distinction between linguistic theory and linguistic theorizing is analyzed, highlighting the importance of theoretical reflection in the study of language. Special attention is given to phonology, one of the core branches of linguistics, with various linguistic theories applied to investigate phonological representations. The study demonstrates that proper understanding of phonology requires the integration of theoretical frameworks within linguistic inquiry
