Abstract

This research delves into the profound concept of Ujamaa, rooted in the essence of traditional African family life, where individuals coexist, collaborate, and cooperate in navigating life's challenges. Central to Ujamaa's movement is the establishment of villages in rural landscapes, while simultaneously implementing nationalization and reform initiatives in urban areas. A pivotal characteristic of Ujamaa villages is the empowerment of villagers, granting them the rights of equality and self-determination in the comprehensive management of their lives and the affairs of the village. This study aims to elucidate the historical evolution, ideological foundations, and practical implications of the Ujamaa movement, providing insights into its socio-political ramifications and assessing its contemporary relevance
