The acquisition of authentic Standard English pronunciation poses a significant challenge for Chinese high school and college students engaged in second language learning. Pronunciation, a crucial aspect of language acquisition, becomes particularly intricate for these students as they grapple with the influence of their native Chinese accents. This study explores the persistent difficulty faced by Chinese students in attaining a nuanced understanding and mastery of authentic Standard English pronunciation. The prevalent tendency among Chinese learners to intermingle their native linguistic nuances with English articulation stems from a linguistic context where their mother tongue predominates their communication landscape. Consequently, this linguistic influence impedes the attainment of a precise and accurate Target Language (TL) pronunciation. To dissect this issue, the study employs a multifaceted approach, drawing on linguistic theories and empirical data. By delving into the intricate interplay between the students' first language and the TL, we aim to unravel the specific challenges inhibiting the development of authentic pronunciation skills. The research identifies key linguistic factors contributing to the persistent prevalence of Chinese accents in English pronunciation among these students. These factors encompass phonological distinctions, articulatory variations, and the impact of tonal patterns inherent in the Chinese language. The findings shed light on the need for tailored pedagogical strategies to address these challenges effectively. Language educators must consider the linguistic nuances embedded in the students' native language and devise targeted interventions that foster a more accurate and authentic English pronunciation. This study contributes valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on second language acquisition, emphasizing the necessity of addressing pronunciation challenges within a specific linguistic and cultural context
