Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) represents a transformative paradigm in communication, extending beyond the conventional human-centric model of internet access. Unlike the current state, where humans predominantly interact with the internet through devices, the IoT envisions a comprehensive network where inanimate objects and devices autonomously communicate over the internet. This revolutionary concept introduces novel dimensions in internet communication, giving rise to two distinct interaction paradigms: human-things and things-things (Tan & Koo, 2014). By enabling objects to autonomously exchange information over the internet, the IoT seeks to redefine the landscape of communication, fostering a seamless integration of the physical and digital realms.

The core principle of IoT lies in the interconnection of sensing and actuating devices, creating a dynamic ecosystem capable of sharing information across diverse platforms. This is achieved through the implementation of a unified framework, establishing a common operating picture that underlies the development of innovative applications (Gubbi et al., 2013). The convergence of ubiquitous sensing and cloud computing plays a pivotal role in realizing the potential of IoT, facilitating seamless large-scale data gathering, analytics, and information representation.

In this context, the paper explores the multifaceted implications of IoT, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize communication by extending it beyond human-to-human interactions. The interconnected network of sensing and actuating devices not only provides a platform for data exchange but also serves as a catalyst for the emergence of innovative applications. By fostering a collaborative environment where devices autonomously contribute to the collective intelligence, IoT opens avenues for enhanced decision-making processes, resource optimization, and the development of context-aware systems.
